SMTOWN Anaheim 2012, fan account.
For starters, a few details might be off or left out because I can’t exactly remember everything precisely. I mean I was going crazy the entire time, and was texting and calling Angela the whole time as well. I was liveblogging it to her so to speak but in a crazed, ecstatic manner.
I swear for the first ten or so minutes leading up to the beginning of the show, SM was trolling us. Because they’d do little things. Turn the lights off, have someone announce the show was about to start, then turn the lights back on, play videos up on the screen but nothing would actually happen.
Until FINALLY Tiffany, Taeyeon and Leeteuk made their way onto the main stage. As expected, the crowd went nuts. Tiffany had her beautiful red hair, Taeyeon was a picture of loveliness and Leeteuk was like a freaking energy pill the entire concert. He seemed so happy. Those three were the MC’s for the night and mostly talked in Korean (as to be expected) although Tiffany occasionally said a few words in English, which was lovely. Her English is the cutest.
It seemed almost sudden when SHINee appeared on stage, opening the show with Lucifer. The crowd went nuts. I dialed Angela’s number so fast I almost dropped my phone. Lucifer was intense and amazing and afterwards they went into Amigo and Juliette, and they had a dance break in each song which was super ace and made their performances extra special.
Super Junior then rocked the stage with Superman and Don’t Don, they also performed a few songs that I couldn’t, for whatever reason, place the names to so I won’t really mention those. I honestly felt like Super Junior had the most energy out of all the artists. Leeteuk especially, as I mentioned, just seemed so thrilled and energetic. I was a little bummed that Henry and Zhou Mi didn’t appear to be there. I think a few other members (aside from the obvious ones) were absent as well but there was so much moving around I couldn’t tell, and I was much to distracted by the amazement of the moment when they were doing their greetings. Donghae was there, and seeing him was brilliant. Eunhyuk, Shindong, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun, Yesung were also there.
TVXQ/DBSK came on and while I honestly wouldn’t consider myself a fan, each and every one of their performances were fantastic. Their dancing and singing was executed stunningly. I do however, love the song Mirotic and when they performed that I was super happy. Angela yelled at me to call her during that song too, which I did. SuJu came right back on stage after that with BONAMANA. Which of course was crazy and fun, nonstop movement when SuJu takes the stage.
f(x) finally made their entrance with Hot Summer and god, were they perfect. f(x) was seriously so cute and charismatic, I can’t get over it. After that, they did their introductions with Amber doing most of the talking. Luna said a few words in English and she sounded so cute and slurred. Sulli tried to say something but ended up giggling instead. Amber was so cute, she was just like, “Would anyone else like to try to say something in English?” and Krystal made this face like, “Amber stop” it was so funny. They went into NU ABO after that and it was another flawless performance.
AND FINALLY, the part where I really lost my nuts. TAEYEON OPENED GIRLS’ GENERATION’S FIST PERFORMANCE WITH HER DEVIL CRY. I literally screamed “OH MY GOD NO WAY” because her devil cry is legit one of my favorite things ever and her vocals are so damn ace. It was amazing. Girls’ Generation went straight into Run Devil Run after that, then with Genie and Tiffany’s rap and then into Kissing You. They were so good, even with only seven members. It was kind of sad not to see all nine of them on stage, but Yoona and Yuri were absent due to filming their dramas. I was looking forward to seeing them, but as I said, the other girls were spectacular, beautiful and absolutely wondrous.
SHINee came back on stage, did some talking and Key’s English really is fabulous. They had a translator up for the other members but I honestly can’t remember all that was said. They performed Love Like Oxygen and it was so good. Taemin started this intensely wicked dance number just before they went into the song. The MC’s came back on to do some more talking, and Tiffany announced they’d be doing some collaboration stages, which were all super amazing.
f(x) came back on the stage accompanied by Super Junior to perform Oops! It was so fun to watch, it was like a party. They even saluted Heechul when he came on the video and it was really touching.
Onew and Luna then did a gorgeous duet “One In A Million” and for me that was like a big “FUCK YOU” to all the Lunew/Luna haters. I loved that duet a lot more than I should have probably, not to say that it wasn’t amazing though, because it was. They had a lot of chemistry together and were insanely cute.
I lost my nuts again (actually was losing my nuts the entire night but you know) when Krystal and Jessica, the Jung sisters, came back in stage to perform Katy Perry’s California Girls. Which was epic and perfect because well, they’re from California. Jessica had the cutest dress on too.
Changmin and Kyuhyun then performed “Just The Way You Are” and some lucky fan was on stage with them. Honestly, she smiled when they interacted with her but she more or less looked like she was going to throw up or something. At one point I thought she looked mad? I don’t know, she might’ve been nervous. But when Kyuhyun grabbed her hand she did smile really big, and I thought she might faint when Changmin and Kyuhyun hugged her at the same time. It was a really cute performance.
I started laughing so hard because Donghae and Eunhyuk then came on stage to perform Oppa Oppa, which I honestly think is the most douchey song ever, not to mention they were wearing obnoxiously colored polka dot suits but it was FREAKING FANTASTIC. It was a very fun and bouncy performance. I loved it.
AND THEN WE ALL LOST OUR NUTS when EXO finally came up on stage. I have to say, Exo was definitely one of my favorites of the night, they were flawless. Exo M started it off with the Mandarin version of History but then EXO K joined them on the stage and they fluidly switched right into the Korean version, it was mesmerizing. After History the members introduced themselves and talked a little. Kris has some adorable English and LuHan is just lovely, so cute. They performed MAMA after that and again flawlessly switched between Mandarin and Korean. Tao’s Wushu move was excellent too, everyone got hella excited when he did that.
TaeTiSeo - Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun of Girls’ Generation then graced the stage to perform Twinkle, and I was stoked that they did because I really wanted to see it live. They were so damn cute and everyone was singing along. I really love the sub unit of TaeTiSeo, it’s a really amazing mixture of some of Girls’ Generation’s strongest vocals.
When Amber then suddenly popped up on stage and started singing G6 by The Far East Movement, every went wild. I was so excited, BUT EVEN MORE SO when Kris and Key joined her up on the stage. It was really good, and just straight up fun. Amber, Kris and Key really seemed like they were enjoying themselves.
Super Junior came back on stage with Sorry Sorry and I swear, the energy in the room lifted at least twice as much when SuJu once again came to rock the stage. There was singing, dancing and I gave myself a headache head banging and dancing, and I was thankful that by some chance, the two seats at either side of me were empty hahaha. They then did their greetings and Leeteuk was adorable as hell, instead of saying his name like everyone else he goes, “MY NAME IS—?” and we all of course shouted, “LEETEUK” and then again he goes, “MY NAME IS—?” and of course again, “LEETEUK” and then he says, “Oh wow, you guys are genius” in his cute, Korean accented English. After Leeteuk had his fun, SuJu went into A-cha, which was another energetic, powerful performance.
TVXQ came back on with a song I am sorry to say I don’t know the name of, but then they performed Keep Your Head Down, which was supremely awesome and dynamic. They are extremely good performers.
The queen finally made her entrance, BoA started off with two of her English songs, one of which was Energetic. She made a little speech after that, I honestly can’t tell you how damn charming and cute she is. She also said something along the lines of, “Man it feels like I’ve been singing these songs forever. I think I need new English songs, right? Our boss person is over there somewhere /points/ Did you hear what I said? I’m kidding~~” hahaha, she was great. Kris and Key then joined her for a song, and after that she and Key performed I Did It For Love which was sexy and well, delicious really. BoA and Key work so well together. She performed Hurricane Venus after that, and it was wildly good.
MY BABIES CAME BACK ON STAGE AFTER BOA. They started off with Way To Go and everyone was going nuts, or maybe that was just me? I was going out of my mind, seeing them come back on stage was nearly as stunning as the first time they came on stage. I love Girls’ Generation so much. After Way To Go they performed Gee and the whole crowd was going “GEE GEE GEE GEE BABY BABY” and did I mention that I screamed Sunny’s name EVERY SINGLE TIME she sang or appeared in screen?
SuJu came back on stage, and then SHINee with a Ring Ding Dong remix that was freakin’ fierce. F(x) performed Danger spectacularly, SHINee came back with Sherlock, the song that everyone around me was looking forward too. THEN GIRLS’ GENERATION CAME BACK WITH THE ENGLISH VERSION OF THE BOYS AND IT WAS THE LAST SONG THEY DID AND I WANTED TO DIE AND CRY IT WAS SO DAMN PERFECT AND AMAZING AND YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND OH MY GOD. DAMN. okay and then SuJu did Mr. Simple, such ENERGY even to the very end of the show. TVXQ came back on too.
And then finally, Tiffany, Taeyeon and Leeteuk, our beloved MC’s of the night, came back on to announce the end of the show, and literally this big “AWWWW” echoed throughout the arena. Tiffany said, “We have one last performance for you.” and the entire SMTOWN family came back on stage and they performed their giant group song “I Am” as the confetti machine went off and balloons piled down from the ceiling. It’s so special and endearing watching them all gather and interact together on one stage as one. I was really sad it was ending but even the ending itself was a mesmerizing, perfect performance. They bowed, and waved, and Sunny even waved towards my section of the audience. And you couldn’t seem to get Leeteuk off the stage, he kept saying thank you, and bowing and just running all about. Many of the SuJu members took off their SMTown shirts and threw them to members of the audience, man those lucky bitches close to the stage haha.
The entire show was honestly supremely excellent, well done, fun, energetic, amazing, wonderful, showcased the artists talents and passion, and it was really a night to remember. I was a little bummed about lacking members, and I wish EXO could have been on stage more, I wish everyone had time for more songs, would have been cool to see solo’s too and most of all, there was no big dance stage/dance battle performance. HOWEVER, with that said, it was a blessing to be there and I am truly thankful and happy and still so damn buzzed and stoked. Every so often, they’d play videos about the SMTOWN family really giving it that “family feel” that SM is known for, and each group made sure to let the fans know how much they’re loved and appreciated. It was a powerful and awesome night. It was definitely worth every penny I spent, it was worth the aching feet, the anxiety and everything. I have never let so loose in a place before, but each performance was a pull to dance and sing and scream. It was oozing excitement and wonderment, I was starstruck and utterly in awe. I’m so in love with these performances and so proud of the artists who executed them. It was amazing. So amazing.
Also though, at the venue security and employees were saying “NO CAMERA’S” over and over and that we’d be searched and what not, so I called my dad to get my mom’s camera back (brought her little digital rather then my big SLR) but what do I see when I get in there? Loads of people with their camera’s… I was so pissed. But I have some blurry, shitty ass photo’s I took of the big screen with my cellphone which I’ll post when I’m not to lazy to send them to my email.
I’m sorry if this fan account was a bit dull or not too detailed but yeah, there you go. That was my experience at SMTOWN 2012. So good.
